Profile

What riders find at Cycle Ranch Motocross Park.

Cycle Ranch Motocross Park is South Texas's home base for serious motocross, 100+ acres on County Road 405 in Floresville, about 30 minutes southeast of San Antonio. The facility opened in 1998 under Matt and Lana Walker, and over the past quarter-century has grown into one of the most complete motocross destinations in the southern United States. The headline attribute is the dirt: a famous red soil mix of loamy clay and sand that drinks Texas rain, holds prep through the hottest summer practice days, and develops the kind of deep ruts and natural berms that reward proper technique. Riders who travel from harder-pack Midwest tracks routinely call Cycle Ranch's dirt some of the best they've ridden. The 1.7-mile main is national-caliber, built to host the Lucas Oil Pro Amateur National qualifiers and laid out with the rhythm sections, doubles, and elevation changes that the U.S. amateur championship circuit demands. A separate junior track gives younger riders a scaled-down version of the main with proportional jumps and turns. There's also a turn track for working on cornering technique, plus woods trails that wind through the surrounding ranch property for cross-discipline riders. Beyond motocross, Cycle Ranch operates a learn-to-ride program, kids' camps, and even go-karts for non-riding family members, making it one of the few Texas motocross facilities that legitimately works as a multi-day family destination. Practice is open daily 8am to sunset, weather permitting. The race calendar exceeds 20 events per year, including Loretta Lynn's Area Qualifiers (the qualifying rounds for the famous amateur national in Tennessee), USA Motocross Championships rounds, and the Texas State Championship Series. Camping is available with full RV hookups (electric, water, sewer dump), a true rarity at Texas motocross facilities and a major draw for race-weekend families. Concessions are full-service during race weekends, with permanent restroom blocks and an on-site shop for parts, gloves, and basic supplies. Pricing structure rotates by event, call (888) 604-6686 or email info@cycleranchmx.com for current practice and race-day rates. The location is the underrated detail. Floresville is far enough out of San Antonio to feel like real Texas country (you'll pass cattle ranches, peanut farms, and South Texas brush country on the drive in) but close enough that San Antonio hotels, restaurants, and the airport are all under an hour away. From Houston it's a three-hour drive west on I-10; from Austin, two hours south on I-35; from Corpus Christi, two hours north. The annual Cycle Ranch race weekends pull riders from across Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and as far as Arkansas. If you're a Texas rider, you've ridden Cycle Ranch or you should, and if you're traveling through the Southwest with a trailer, this is the stop. The dirt, the multi-track layout, the family amenities, and the legacy of national-caliber amateur racing make Cycle Ranch Motocross Park the centerpiece of South Texas motocross.
