Texas Tornado Motocross

Texas Tornado Motocross sits on Mail Route Road in Montgomery, about an hour north of Houston, and it is not your average public weekend gate. TTMX is a coaching facility run by Vann Martin, a Houston-born former pro who raced Pro Motocross and Supercross before a 2022 back injury ended his career and turned his focus to building riders. He is USMCA certified and won the 2011 Loretta Lynn's title in the Collegeboy class, so the program comes from someone who has actually lined up on a national gate.

The dirt here is built to punish bad habits. Half the layout is a red clay mix that holds a rut all day. The other half goes soft and sandy and gives under the tire. Expect deep ruts, braking bumps, big jumps, a rhythm section, rollers, and a bit of elevation. It is rough on purpose, kept rutted so that when riders show up to a race, nothing on the track surprises them.

Training runs Monday through Thursday and covers the whole toolkit: starts, sprints, long motos, corner tracks, figure-8 and oval drills, no-rear-brake laps, no-clutch laps, feet-on-pegs and stand-up laps. After they ride, riders hit the on-site gym for cardio, core, and balance work. No heavy lifting, just the conditioning that keeps you strong into the second moto.

This is not a beginner drop-in. The tracks are meant for experienced riders, and the Monday through Thursday program is registration only, so call Vann before you show up. Friday is the exception: a beginner class in the late afternoon, then a Learn to Ride session for first-timers. Private lessons can be booked any other time.
