RedBud in Buchanan needs no introduction. The Lucas Oil Pro Motocross National there is one of the loudest crowds anywhere on the circuit and a shutdown of the surrounding rural roads for the weekend. Outside the big one, Michigan sits on some of the best riding dirt in the Midwest: sandy loam from glacial deposits that drains well, sets up fast, and forgives a wet morning better than clay states. Baja Acres up by Millington, Battle Creek MC, Dutch Sport Park down in the southwest, Martin MX over toward Lake Michigan. Season runs late April through October with a national-week boom in early July. The Michigan MX Association runs the points calendar. The peninsulas split the scene a little; Upper Peninsula riders chase a tighter calendar and tend to know each other by name. If you've never ridden Michigan sand, plan extra forearm strength and a fresh chain.
