LaBaron's MX Track

LaBaron's MX Track is a 38-acre motocross practice track on Enterprise Drive in Brown City, Michigan, in the Thumb. It opened in 2024, built and run by LaBaron's Power Sports, the local dealership that has been in business since 1971, and it is one of the few brand-new motocross tracks in the region. The track is fully approved and the crew is still building while operating, with a kids track and more parking next on the list.

The dirt is hard-packed clay mixed with loam, and the track calls itself a hard-pack track without apology. Before each ride day the surface gets chisel plowed, disced and watered, so it starts loamy and freshly tilled, then firms up and gets faster through the afternoon. The crew recommends a soft or intermediate tire like the Dunlop MX34 and warns that scoop tires break loose in the turns here. The layout runs table tops, step-ups, step-downs, doubles, rollers and berms, forgiving enough for a first-timer and quick enough for the A riders.

Ride days are every other Sunday from May through October, plus some holidays, on the dates posted at labaronsmxtrack.com. Gates open at 11 AM and riding runs from noon to 5 PM in three groups, A/B, C and Mini/Trail, with 65cc the smallest bike on the track since there is no kids track yet. A $40 one-day membership and ride pass covers everything, with no gate fee, or buy a $70 annual membership and ride for $30 a day. Spectators are free. Buy online ahead of time to skip the sign-up line (the passes ship, so order by the Tuesday before) or pay at the track. That price covers insurance, flaggers, an EMT on site and the track prep.

A DOT motocross helmet, goggles and MX boots are required to ride, with chest protectors and neck braces recommended, and LaBaron's Power Sports sells gear and parts and does service. Riders must be at least 4, and anyone under 18 needs a parent or legal guardian present all day, or a notarized release naming another adult. No pit riding, no drones, and no ATVs. A food truck is booked for most ride days, so check the schedule to see who is cooking.

Brown City sits in Sanilac County, about an hour from Port Huron, 90 minutes from Flint and two hours from Detroit, so the track draws from across the Thumb and southeast Michigan.
