Profile · Washington

Riding Washington.

The Cascades split the state into two riding climates. West side is Pacific-Northwest wet for half the year; east side is high-desert dry. Evergreen Motocross Park (EMXP) in Monroe is the big name, Burnt Ridge over in Onalaska, Horn Rapids in the Tri-Cities region, Moto West, Eddieville. Northwest Motocross series covers the regional points and pulls Oregon and Idaho riders. West-side tracks run through the rain; the locals develop wet-weather riding skills you don't find at Texas tracks. East-side tracks ride dry from May through October and the high-desert riders take pride in toughness. Soil ranges from black-loam volcanic on the west side to decomposed-granite hardpack east of the mountains. Season is technically year-round if you respect mud; practical season runs March through November. Riding through a sprinkle here is normal. Wet-weather goggles, a vented rain jacket, and a freshly lubed chain are part of the kit half the year.
