Wide-open country and tracks that sit out in it. Bar2Bar Motocross Park, Great Bend Motocross, Dragoon Creek down by Pomona Lake, Abilene Motocross. Wind is the constant variable; some weekends it parks the dust, some weekends it pushes you off the take-off ramp on the bigger doubles. Kansas dirt is mostly hardpack with sandy patches where the rivers have moved through, and prep makes a bigger difference here than in the loamy states. Season runs March through November, with a mid-summer slump that gets brutal in the southern half of the state. The KMRA series anchors the points calendar and pulls riders in from Nebraska and northern Oklahoma. Hardpack riders develop a different style: smoother throttle, less aggressive on the entry, faster on exit. If you've only ridden loam, the first weekend out here will humble you a little.
