What riders find

Great Bend Motocross Park, known locally as GBMX or Great Bend Motopark, is a historic natural-terrain motocross track in Great Bend, Kansas, tucked inside the multi-use Great Bend Expo Complex near the municipal airport. It runs under a city-approved agreement managed by the operators of the Kansas Motocross Championship Series (KMCS), which gives central Kansas a real racing home with deep roots.

Those roots run to the 1980s and 1990s, when the original track served as early proving ground for AMA Supercross pros Wil and Tommy Hahn. It shut down in 1993 and sat vacant for two decades before local volunteers and professional track builders rebuilt it from the ground up over the original footprint in 2013. The result is a classic outdoor course cut into natural terrain, with wide rolling clay structures, sweeping high-speed ruts, tabletops, and rhythmic roller sections.

GBMX is a private facility that opens to the public only on designated, pre-announced dates for organized practice, rider training clinics, and races. Prep level sets the fee: non-prepped weeknight practice (for example, select Wednesdays 4:30 to 7:30pm) runs $15 per rider, while prepped weekend practice (for example, select Sundays 10am to 3pm) runs $30 per rider. The ground here is heavy clay, so operators call off sessions when strong winds kick up or rain turns the surface slick. Always check the GBMX Facebook or Instagram for the current calendar before you load up.

The gate welcomes traditional dirt bikes and ATVs and quads during open practice. GBMX also stands out for its dedicated Side-by-Side (SxS) shootouts and utility off-road classes, which pull a big regional UTV turnout, and event weekends often add youth Stacyc electric-bike racing to get the youngest families involved. Race days bring food trucks, early coffee wagons, and gear giveaways from regional powersports shops. The track sits on gravel parking and staging lots alongside the rest of the Expo Complex, including the SRCA Dragstrip, the rodeo arena, and the county fairgrounds.
