Iowa motocross runs through the cornfield months and goes quiet by November. Cambridge OHV Park is one of the bigger public venues, Gypsum City OHV up by Fort Dodge handles the trail and dual-sport crowd alongside the moto, Crossfire MX and CronkyTonk fill in the regular calendar. Black dirt is the headline asset: rich, deep, holds water, sets up loamy when prepped right and turns slick when overwatered. The state's geography keeps everything within a few hours of everything else, which means the regulars at one track tend to know everyone at the next. Iowa Motocross Association handles the points calendar. Season is short by southern standards (April through October) but locals pack a lot of riding into that window. Watch the late-spring rains; a wet weekend can turn a great track into something approximating wet concrete. Once it dries, though, Iowa dirt is among the better-riding soil in the country.
