New Hartford Racing (Rambling Wheels MC)

New Hartford Racing in north-central Iowa is run by the Rambling Wheels Motorcycle Club, established in 1955 and AMA-chartered, which makes it one of the longest continuously operating motocross clubs in the Midwest.

Seventy-plus years of continuous club racing builds things newer tracks cannot buy: multi-generational rider families, deep knowledge of how the dirt preps through the Iowa seasons, and a race program that runs like clockwork.

The riding covers three disciplines on one property. The European-style motocross track measures over a mile and is designed wide and safe. The layout favors natural-terrain flow and long connected sections over choppy, disconnected features, technical enough to work you without putting newer riders in over their heads, and the kind of design that builds riders who can adapt across formats. A flat-track short track adds oval racing for the cross-genre crowd, and wooded trails round out the property for hare scramble training and events.

Race weekends come with free primitive camping, which takes the cost barrier out of a full weekend of racing and fits the club's whole approach: the place exists to serve riders, not to squeeze them. The on-site concession stand serves breakfast and lunch, so a full day at the track does not depend on what you packed in the cooler.

For riders in Butler County and north-central Iowa (New Hartford, Cedar Falls, Waterloo, Waverly, Charles City, and the Highway 14 and Highway 27 corridors), New Hartford Racing is the heritage AMA club close to home.
