Riverside Raceway

Riverside Raceway in Winterset, Iowa is permanently closed. The track ran from 2000 in a tree-lined valley along the Middle River south of town, 35 acres of black-loam dirt that owner Tony Wenck, who founded it and bought it back in 2015, built into the most-attended stop on the Iowa Moto series. Race weekends here came with national coverage from Racer X, Swap Moto and Vurbmoto, Loretta Lynn's qualifiers, the Justin Brayton Shootout and a pit full of extras: bounce house, playground, pit bike races, fireworks and firewood, all included in the gate.

The end came fast. A March 2022 tornado leveled the owner's home beside the track and damaged the facility, and the track reopened within weeks for the Iowa Moto season opener. That summer, after vandalism at a race weekend turned into a public dispute with the series, Wenck published an open letter closing the gates indefinitely, pulling Riverside out of the Iowa Moto series and cancelling the fall events. The property was later listed as a turnkey track business, and in May 2025 the 35 acres were auctioned as land only, marketed for hunting, recreation and a building site. The motocross track no longer exists.

Central Iowa riders who raced here now spread across the remaining Iowa Moto venues and the Des Moines-area tracks; use the Iowa hub on this site for what is still open. The Riverside Raceway Facebook page remains as a memorial to the track and its community.
