Swan MX

Swan MX in Tyler is the oldest continuously running motocross track in Texas, racing since 1969 and still going strong on County Road 433 in the East Texas pine country. More than half a century of uninterrupted operation makes it one of the oldest active motocross facilities in the entire country. Under new ownership by the Moe family, the park keeps expanding its amenities and its premier racing series while protecting what made it a Texas institution in the first place.

What riders remember most is the dirt. Swan runs on a rich red East Texas clay that gives up unique traction and builds the kind of natural ruts and berms that reward proper line selection. It drains fast after a thunderstorm and holds prep through a long day. It is also infamous for one thing: it will stain your boots and gear red for good. The layout itself is modern and constantly evolving, engineered for big jumps and technical racing, with multiple tracks scaled by skill level and bike size.

Swan is unusually welcoming to newcomers. The track runs a beginner class policy you will not find at most facilities: a rider whose first season is cut short by injury or a mechanical can stay in the beginner bracket for up to two full years, so nobody gets pushed up a class before they are ready.

The race calendar is one of the deepest in the state, with monthly events and classes for every age, bike size, and skill level. Marquee weekends include the Texas State Championship Series, the Lone Star Day and Night Series, and the historic annual Pro Challenge, often called the last unofficial national of the year, with live music, fireworks, freestyle stunts, and serious payouts. Swan also hosts the Loretta Lynn's Vet Regional, a qualifying round for the famous amateur national.

Membership is the operating model. An annual practice membership buys access to the property up to seven days a week on a track that is regularly groomed. Organized practices run throughout the year, usually alongside race weekends, and are open to all ages, bike types, and skill levels. For focused skill development, the Xtreme MotoCross Camps are taught by working professionals. The facilities put Swan in a category by itself among Texas venues. There are 25-plus acres of shaded parking in a pecan orchard, commercial restrooms with air conditioning and hot showers, a third-story observation deck above the scoring tower, covered and lighted starting gates and staging, 50-plus RV hookups with water and electricity, grandstand seating for more than 3,000, food concessions, picnic tables, a children's playground, and free WiFi.

Tyler sits about 100 miles east of Dallas and just four miles off Interstate 20, roughly 90 minutes from DFW, two hours from Shreveport, and four from Houston. It is a real city with full hotel and restaurant infrastructure, so race weekends stay in proper accommodations instead of rural lodging. One planning note for families: any rider under 18 needs the Swan MX Minor Release Form completed in advance, which requires notarization or both parents' signatures.
