Profile

What riders find at Swan MX.

Swan MX in Tyler is the oldest continuously running motocross track in the state of Texas, operating since 1969 and still going strong on County Road 433 in the East Texas pine country. That makes Swan one of the oldest active motocross facilities in the entire United States, predating most of the racing infrastructure in California, the Northeast, and the Midwest. The 56-plus years of continuous operation are on display in the facility itself: while smaller tracks come and go, Swan has invested in commercial-grade infrastructure that puts it in a category by itself among Texas motocross venues. Covered and lighted starting gates anchor the main track. Commercial-grade restrooms feature air conditioning and hot showers, a serious comfort upgrade after a long race day in East Texas humidity. A third-story observation deck gives spectators full sight lines across the property. There's a children's playground for non-riding family members, picnic tables, and food concessions during race weekends. The track is bordered by an evergreen forest, which provides natural shade across portions of the pit area, another small luxury that East Texas summers make essential. Multiple tracks operate on the property, scaled by skill level and bike size. The race calendar is one of the deepest in the state: monthly racing events with classes for all ages, bike sizes, and skill levels, plus marquee events including the Loretta Lynn's Vet Regional (a qualifying round for the famous amateur national) and the 28th Annual Pro-Am Challenge. Membership is the operating model, yearly practice memberships give riders 7-day-a-week access to the property. Casual day-pass riding is more limited; if you're traveling through and want to try Swan, call (903) 882-4215 or email info@swanmx.com to confirm what's open and current pricing. Swan also runs Xtreme MotoCross Camps for serious skill development, drawing riders from across the Southeast. The location matters: Tyler sits about 100 miles east of Dallas off Interstate 20, in the heart of East Texas pine country. From DFW, the drive is about 90 minutes; from Shreveport, two hours; from Houston, four hours. Tyler itself is a real city with full hotel and restaurant infrastructure (it's the East Texas regional center), so race weekends can stay in proper accommodations rather than the limited rural lodging closer to smaller tracks. Tyler is also famous for its rose gardens, BBQ, and college football culture, which makes a Swan MX weekend a legitimate family destination beyond just the riding. Soil at Swan is a clay-loam mix typical of East Texas, drains well after thunderstorms, holds prep through long days, and develops the kind of natural ruts and berms that reward proper line selection. For Texas riders looking for legacy, infrastructure, and serious year-round race competition, Swan MX is the cornerstone of East Texas motocross. The 56-year history isn't decoration, it's why the facility remains the standard.
