Royal Mountain MX

Royal Mountain MX in Caroga Lake, New York is the summer side of Royal Mountain Ski Area in the southern Adirondacks, one of only a handful of tracks in the country that run motocross on actual ski-hill terrain.

That terrain is the draw. Real Adirondack elevation with hundreds of feet of vertical drop across the layout, mountain views, and numerous doubles, triples, and tabletops worked into the natural slope. No amount of imported dirt and earthwork can recreate what a mountain gives you for free, and a lap here feels like nothing you get at a flat-land track.

Wednesday Night Supercross runs under the lights, giving the track a regular midweek cadence beyond weekend events. The annual Hill Climb is the signature event and a fan favorite, using the full face of the mountain in a way no conventional track could attempt. Racing is sanctioned through AMA District 3 and CNYMRA, so riders chasing points in either series have a home venue with a predictable race calendar.

The schedule follows the mountain: skiing runs December through March, and motocross takes over through the warm months once the slopes are clear.

For riders in Fulton County and the southern Adirondacks, Caroga Lake, Gloversville, Johnstown, Northville, Mayfield, and the Route 10 and Route 30 corridors, Royal Mountain is the local summer track. Albany riders head north for the ski-hill terrain, and Utica and Mohawk Valley riders come east for the District 3 racing.
