Profile

What riders find at Elizabeth City Motocross Club.

Elizabeth City Motocross Club is a sand motocross track in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, in the northeast corner of the state near the Albemarle Sound and the Virginia line, within reach of the Hampton Roads area. It has been at it since 1968, with more than 50 years of racing behind it, and it has built a real name for itself: a nationally recognized sand track that pulls 500-plus riders to its bigger events. The dirt is the headline. This is deep, fast sand with elevation changes worked into hills, bowls, and off-camber sections, the kind of surface that rewards momentum and punishes a tired throttle hand. As a non-profit, member-owned club, it is run by and for riders, with membership open to all ages and skill levels and benefits that include practice and open-ride access plus reduced race entry. The amenities are dialed for a full weekend: on-site camping for RVs, trailers, and tents, flat level parking, clean bathhouses with hot showers, and a bike wash. The club is AMA sanctioned and hosts six to eight major events a year, including District 13 races, Loretta Lynn area qualifiers, and dates tied to Capitol Cup, MAMA, and AHRMA. The 2026 calendar runs from a May District 13 weekend through the fall. For sand riders across northeast North Carolina and southeast Virginia, it is a must-ride. See ecmx.com for the event schedule, membership, and camping details, and confirm dates before you make the tow to 1520 Northside Road. For sand specialists, the chance to ride deep, fast sand with real elevation is the whole reason to point the truck toward the coast.
