Windy Hill Motocross

Windy Hill Motocross sits on US 220 north of Ellerbe in the North Carolina Sandhills, a short drive north of Rockingham, and it rides like the region: soft sand that starts smooth and develops real ruts and rough by early afternoon. The whole main track was rebuilt in 2026 by MotoCreations into a layout the track calls its best yet, old-school flow with jumps for every level, including the big set the regulars have nicknamed after their nerve. A separate PeeWee track keeps the little bikes off the main line, and Aligned MX Training runs coaching on site for riders of all ages.

This is an announced-day track, not a daily one. The crew posts each practice a day or two ahead on the Windy Hill Sports Instagram and Facebook pages, usually one weekend day from 9 AM to 2 PM with the track fully prepped, and it goes quiet when the Sandhills summer turns hot and dry. Practice is $30 on the main track and $10 on the PeeWee track, cash only, plus a $5 annual Windy Hill Sports Riders Club membership that you sign up for at the gate with the release. Riders under 18 need a parent on the property or the signed minor waiver and medical authorization from the website's Forms page.

Windy Hill has been a fixture on the North Carolina Motocross Association calendar, hosting series rounds and the NC MX State Championship in August 2025, so the sand here has seen plenty of gate drops.
