New Black Ankle Raceway
Live now
Historic 1980 raceway reborn: deep-prep MX track, iconic TT flat track, lit night SX, pee wee track, and miles of XC trails. Open daily, free camping, cash only.
What riders find
Everyone in North Carolina moto knows the name. Black Ankle Raceway has been running since 1980, and since coming under new ownership in 2021 the Star, NC property (just off US-220, fifteen minutes south of Asheboro) has grown from its famous TT flat-track roots into a full multi-track riding destination.
Five distinct riding areas cover the whole family: a deep-prep main motocross track built for dirt bikes, the iconic TT flat track that ATV and flat-track riders consider one of the best around, a lit night track with a mini-SX layout for evening events, dedicated pee wee and mini MX tracks kept clear of big-bike traffic, and miles of wooded cross-country trails open to bikes and ATVs. Quads get the trails, mini MX, and TT track, but stay off the main MX and night tracks except at designated events.
The riding rhythm is simple and generous: the gates work weekdays sun-up to sundown, Saturdays 10 to dark, and Sundays noon to 5. Weekday laps usually run on an unprepped surface (tilled periodically); official practice days bring full prep, water trucks, and staffed concessions. Message the Facebook page before you come, pre-register online for weekday rides, and bring cash, because the whole operation, registration and concessions included, is cash only. A one-time $10 membership covers 2026, open practice days run $25 to $30, race-day gates are $15 with kids 4 and under free, and dry camping costs nothing.
Racing runs through the BAR Series, with summer and winter points championships that each end in an awards banquet. Racers sign up through RaceReady with a valid annual BAR membership. The track also hosts visiting series, including TMX (Tidewater Motocross Association) rounds.
