Mapleshade MX

Mapleshade MX, also written as Maple Shade MX or Maple Shade Motocross, is a premier outdoor racing and practice facility on Matthews Run Road in Sugar Grove, in Warren County near Pennsylvania's northern border. Run by owners Doug and Sherry Lawson, the track has earned a region-wide reputation for rich dirt, safety-conscious design, and a genuinely welcoming grassroots community.

The layout is sculpted through rolling rural acreage and built for structured progression: a flowing mix of small and large jumps, tabletops, step-ups, a signature ski jump section, and a technical Pro Section that gives advanced riders something to chew on. The berms are massive and deeply built for practicing real cornering speed, and the rich topsoil base gets deep-tilled before marquee events, developing predictable ruts with stellar traction. Both dirt bikes and quads get track time for practice and racing.

The season runs roughly March through November around northwest Pennsylvania winters. Open practices land on select midweek evenings, typically 4:30pm until dark, and weekend daytime blocks, with Thursdays set aside as a kids-only session. On the race side, Mapleshade is a fixture of the regional circuit: it anchors points rounds for the Fly Racing PAMX State Championship series, runs 125 All-Star cash shootouts, has served as a Loretta Lynn's Northeast Area Qualifier venue, and adds $2,500 to pro purses covering the 450 Pro and 30+ A classes at major events. AMA and PAMX memberships are required for sanctioned racing, with day passes available.

Plan it as a day trip: the property runs day-use only for standard practices, with camping carved out just for major multi-day race weekends when gates open early for trailer staging. Wheelchair-accessible parking and entrance and public restrooms are on site, and race weekends bring food vendors like True Brew and Pikes Concessions.

For riders in Warren, Jamestown, Erie, and the Chautauqua County corner of western New York, Mapleshade MX is the northern anchor of the western PA practice loop.
