Smith Road Raceway

Smith Road Raceway has been part of northeastern Ohio motocross for more than 30 years, a family-owned, fully independent practice and race facility on West Smith Road in Medina that answers to no sanctioning body but its own crew. The rhythm of the place is famous locally: Wednesday is the riding day, 4 PM to dark all season long, and the rest of the week the gates stay shut except for three big holiday race weekends on Memorial Day, the 4th of July, and Labor Day.

The riding splits across two tracks. The main track is classic Ohio clay shaped into elevated sections, berms, and consistently prepped jumps, and the crew flips the running direction week to week so regulars never settle into autopilot. A separate beginner track gives younger and newer riders their own space, and 50cc bikes stay on the smaller layouts for safety. Wednesday practice is dirt bikes only; quad riders get their turn when the holiday races roll around, where they are a regular part of the program.

It is an easy place to spend an evening even without a bike: watching Wednesday practice costs nothing (gate fees apply on race days, with a break for spectators who show up on a motorcycle), and the grounds cover the practical stuff with gravel parking, a concession stand serving hot food, free Wi-Fi, an air pump for tires, and a coin-operated spray wash so the clay stays in Medina instead of your garage.
