The Shoals MX

The Shoals MX in Donalds, South Carolina is a 200-acre motocross facility founded by motocross champion Steward Baylor Jr., known as The King of the Red Dirt. When a championship-level pro builds his own place, it tends to get designed around what serious training actually needs, and The Shoals shows it.

The track count is destination-scale: three motocross loops, a lighted night track, a Supercross course, and woods trails, five-plus tracks on one admission. The lighted night track keeps the riding window open past sunset, which matters in South Carolina summer heat.

The results back it up. The Shoals has produced six national champions, a number that reflects the training program, the track design, and the rider-development culture the Baylor family has built. The 2025 AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship Southeast Area Qualifier is on the calendar, so riders chasing Loretta Lynn's qualification have a home venue for it.

Fifty RV hookups support full-week training stays, not just weekend drop-ins. And the surface is the namesake: Carolina red dirt that holds tacky cornering lines and shapes predictable jump faces, the same red dirt behind the King of the Red Dirt nickname.
