The Sandbox MX

The Sandbox MX, also known as the Sandbox MX Club, is a private, membership-based motocross and training facility in Rushville, Missouri, off Route 273 near Bean Lake in the Missouri River bottoms south of St. Joseph. It has built a reputation across the Midwest for fast, flowing sand and a full clubhouse setup.

The main outdoor track runs just over a mile of premium clay-and-sand mix, the kind of deep, tacky dirt that builds massive berms and deep corners and rewards momentum and throttle control, with about a two-minute lap. There is a separate small track built strictly for 65cc bikes and under, with big bikes barred to keep it safe for the kids, plus a dedicated corner track for drilling turn speed and form. It runs as a cashless, app-managed club through MX Tickets: grab a $30 day pass with practice, or a monthly, quarterly, or annual membership from the dashboard. The property also doubles as a training base, with group and private clinics from regional coaches including pro rider Preston Taylor.

Off the bike, the clubhouse is stocked with ping-pong, foosball, a pool table, and big-screen TVs for watching the races after a session, and there is an on-site swimming pool to cool off on hot weekends (no lifeguard, swim at your own risk). Heated indoor restrooms are in the yellow building, and primitive camping is allowed along the designated fence lines, though there are no water, sewer, or electric hookups. A couple of house rules: no glass bottles anywhere on the property, and full gear (helmet, goggles, gloves, boots, and long sleeves) any time you are on a bike.
