Muddy Creek Raceway

Muddy Creek Raceway is hallowed ground for Southeast motocross: a national-caliber facility in Blountville, Tennessee, run by Victory Sports Racing, the promoter that has been putting on races here since 1986, and counted among the most prominent MX and ATV venues in the country. The track is a massive 1.5 miles of fast, flowing natural terrain carved into the rolling hills of Northeast Tennessee, with sweeping bermed corners, big tabletops and genuinely technical jump sections that reward riders who can read dirt.

And the dirt is the real deal: premium loam that ruts up, holds traction and opens multiple lines as a moto goes on. Landowner Paul Baskett and his sons cut the first track here in the mid-1970s, and Muddy Creek cemented its legacy by hosting the AMA Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship from 2013 through 2018 in front of tens of thousands. Today it is home base for the THOR United States Mega Series, the Toyota of Kingsport AMA Tennessee State Championship, the Hot Summer Nights Series, the Top Gun Showdown each October with the FMF Cody Gragg Memorial 2-Stroke Race, and AMA Pro ATVMX National stops, with quads as welcome as dirt bikes. Muddy Creek pays ten places in every amateur class, and the 450 A and 250 A classes pay 150 percent.

This is a dedicated racing facility, not a public practice park, so you ride it on scheduled event weekends. A normal series weekend opens the gates Friday at 4:30 PM, runs practice sign-up at 8 and practice at 10 on Saturday ($35 per class, no membership required), then Sunday gates at 6, sign-up and a 7 AM church service, practice at 8 and racing around 9:30. Admission is $35, $30 or $20 for adults depending on the day you arrive, with kids at $20, $15 or $10, pre-entry is $35 for amateur classes and $45 for pro, and dry camping is included with admission on event weekends. Transponders are required for racing and available at the track. Hot showers, concessions, race gas, parts and vending are on site, with water for bike-wash barrels at three spots around the layout.

Getting there: take Exit 63 off I-81 and follow the signs. GPS routes from the south put you on narrow, crooked back roads, and a Sleep Inn sits right at the track exit.
