Ride-in ride-out Oregon Dunes base camp: 1-mile sand MX track, youth circle, sand drags, and 114 hookup campsites with direct dune access from your site.
What riders find
Riley Ranch County Park is the Oregon coast's ride-in, ride-out base camp: a 130-acre Coos County park at milepost 227 on Highway 101, six miles north of North Bend, where campers roll their bikes straight from their site onto the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area trail system.
The on-site riding centers on a one-mile sand motocross track, about 20 feet wide with jumps and starting gates, plus a separate youth circle that gives kids and beginners a calmer sand loop, and a day-use sand drag strip. Everything here is 100 percent sand, so standard dirt tires will struggle; paddle tires are strongly recommended. Dirt bikes, quads, and side-by-sides all ride, and an Oregon OHV permit, whip flag, and helmet are required everywhere on the property and the dunes.
The campground is the real draw for traveling riders: 114 reservable sites with water and electrical hookups, two 16-by-20 camping cabins, and two modern restroom buildings with flush toilets and hot showers. Sites book up to 270 days in advance, and busy-weekend overflow dry camping runs in the day-use lots. There is no RV dump station on site; the nearest public one is five miles up the road at Tenmile County Park in Lakeside.
When arms get tired, 25-acre Butterfield Lake borders the campground, stocked with bass, crappie, perch, and trout, with a launch for non-motorized boats and electric trolling motors only.
For riders working the coast from Coos Bay, North Bend, Reedsport, and the whole Oregon Dunes corridor, Riley Ranch is the staging point that puts the sand track and the dunes outside your camper door.
(541) 756-1687 for the park; camping reservations at (541) 396-7755.
