Profile

What riders find at Albany MX Motorsports Park.

The rock-free loam at Albany MX is the kind of detail that does not mean much until you have ridden a track with rocks. Pacific Northwest soil typically has cobbles in sizes and frequencies that turn front-tire grip into guesswork. Albany sits on a soil profile that is genuinely rock-free, loam mixed with sand, and the difference shows up in how the property rides. You can commit to lines without the rock-strike worry that defines so much of Western motocross. Albany MX Motorsports Park has been operating for more than 50 years in the mid-Willamette Valley. That puts it among the longer-running Pacific Northwest tracks. The Oregon Motorcycle Racing Association (OMRA) sanctions the racing calendar, which means an Albany weekend race counts the same as an OMRA round elsewhere in Oregon. Membership or a day pass is required to ride, which is the standard PNW model. The main loop is three-quarters to 1 mile depending on configuration. A dedicated peewee track sits separately for 50cc and 65cc riders. The configurable main track length lets the property adapt to different event formats without major track reconstruction, and the rock-free soil makes the layout reliable across event types. Wednesday practice runs 2pm to dark. The afternoon-to-dusk window suits working riders in the Willamette Valley, where long summer evenings stretch into 9pm light. Sundays are race days. The Wednesday plus Sunday rhythm reflects the OMRA structure, where mid-week practice and weekend racing have been the standard for decades. The mid-Willamette Valley puts Albany about an hour south of Portland on Interstate 5. Eugene is 45 minutes south on I-5. The catchment is most of western Oregon, southwestern Washington, and the Oregon coast. PNW climate keeps the property usable through more of the year than the interior Western tracks, and the shoulder seasons of spring and fall are some of the best riding windows because the Willamette rain has not yet shut the system down or has just cleared out of it. Albany has been a fixture of the Pacific Northwest motocross scene long enough that several generations of Oregon racers have started here. That kind of continuity is rare in American motocross, and it shows in the property's culture and racer mix. The Wednesday practice crowd has been on the gates together for decades. (541) 908-3501.
