Interlake State Recreation Area

Interlake State Recreation Area in Lynnville, Indiana is a 3,550-acre former coal mine turned off-road riding area, one of the largest OHV destinations in the Indiana state recreation system. The reclaimed mining land is what makes the terrain interesting: the elevation, drainage, and surface variety ride differently than natural-topography parks.

The trail network covers 100 miles of multi-use trails. There are rock garden play areas for technical riding, dedicated single-track for dirt bikes and trials work, and 4x4 trails wide enough for full-size Jeeps and trucks. Dirt bikes, ATVs, UTVs, Jeeps, and trucks all share the property, which works well for families hauling more than one kind of machine.

Interlake is day-use only with a small entry fee, and an Indiana ORV sticker (the state's standard OHV registration) is required for motorized riding. Restrooms sit at the main entrance. There is no on-site camping, so plan it as a day trip.

For riders in Pike and Warrick counties and southwest Indiana, Interlake is the state-managed legal place to ride. Lynnville, Boonville, Petersburg, Princeton, Jasper, and the Evansville metro are all close. Bloomington and Terre Haute riders come south for the 100-mile trail network, and Owensboro and Henderson riders cross the river from Kentucky for legal OHV access.

The reclaimed-mine conversion gave southwest Indiana its largest dedicated OHV riding area, managed within the state recreation system.
