Reads Racing MX park in Akron, IN (sister to Trojan MX): the famous 110-foot tabletop, a 1.5-mile loam main track, plus a peewee track. Bikes and ATVs, event-driven.
What riders find
Hangtime MX Park is a popular, active motocross facility in Akron, Indiana, and one of the primary racing hubs for amateur dirt bike and ATV racers in Northern Indiana. Like its sister track Trojan MX, it is run by Reads Racing Unlimited, a tight-knit, family-run operation known for stellar track prep and a welcoming atmosphere.
The place has built a serious reputation over the years. Industry names like Guy Cooper and Ricky Johnson have lent their expertise as jump designers and guest instructors, former factory pro Mike Alessi has hosted riding schools here, and even NASCAR legend Tony Stewart has dropped in to watch the action.
The main track runs roughly 1.5 miles of loose dirt and premium loam that turns into a real challenge of mud after rain, blending high-speed sweepers with technical rhythm sections that flow naturally into one another. The signature feature is the massive 110-foot tabletop, which gives advanced riders serious hangtime without the danger of a gap drop-off. A completely separate, smaller peewee track sits on-site so youth and beginners can learn the basics safely away from the fast lines.
Hangtime runs on select dates rather than a daily schedule, so check the calendar before you go. It is a busy racing venue: AMA District 15 events, the Grand Prix Series, and rounds of the Indiana State MX Championship, plus two signature events, the annual Pittercross pit-bike championship and the season-closing Hangtime Halloween Spooktakular.
Gate admission is $8 per person per day, cash only. Open practice or race entry runs $35 in cash or $37 by card, with discounts for Reads members, and electronic scoring uses RaceReady RFID transponders at $10 (cash, good for a full year). The property has plenty of open parking, dedicated overnight camping (Saturday night is free with a Sunday gate pass), a bike spray-wash, and a concession stand on race days. As a fun bonus, there is a small pond on the property where you can fish during the down-times. One note: pit vehicles are a privilege, allowed only for getting to registration or the starting gate.
