Byron Motosports Park

Byron Motosports Park is one of the oldest motocross facilities in the country, opened in 1969 and home to two tracks: the Legacy track and the Hilltop track added in 2005. For decades it was northern Illinois' premier race venue, best known for the Nuclear Series and its manufacturer contingency, with more than 1,200 motocross events run over its history.

Heading into the 2026 season, that chapter has changed. The founding Vincer family has retired from promoting their own races, so Byron no longer runs the Nuclear Series or a full season of track-managed racing. The park has not been sold or closed. It now operates on a limited schedule instead, hosting a handful of open ride days through the summer along with special third-party events, from vintage motocross races and hare scrambles to rally and Jeep gatherings that rent the grounds.

For riders, that means Byron is still a place to turn laps, just on select days rather than every weekend. Open riding generally runs Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm at $40 per ride, with sessions split into groups by class and skill. There is no open riding on event weekends, and minors must have a parent sign their release, so always check the park calendar before you load up.

Byron sits northwest of Chicago and west of Rockford, about 90 minutes from the city along the I-39 and Highway 64 corridors. It draws riders from Rockford, Belvidere, Loves Park, Rochelle, DeKalb, and Sterling, with Madison riders coming south across the Wisconsin line.
