AMA Texas State Championship Series: South Round 2

BURN BAN IN EFFECT. The county has put the area under a burn ban for this weekend, so there are NO fires of any kind at the track. Barbecuing is still allowed within reason, but do not leave anything unattended. Announced by Irondog MX on August 26. The 16th Annual AMA Texas State Championship Series brings its South region Round 2 to Irondog MX in New Ulm, August 29 and 30, with factory contingency from GasGas, KTM, Honda, and Husqvarna on the road to the Texas State #1 plate. Friday, August 28 opens the gates 9 AM to 10 PM for camper check-in. Saturday runs gates at 6 AM, on-site registration at 6:30, AMA-sanctioned practice 8 to noon, the riders meeting at the score tower after practice, and racing from 1 PM through the Saturday card (micro and 50cc divisions, 65cc and 85cc opens and beginners, Girls 11-16, 122cc+ Beginner, and Vet Women 25+). Sunday repeats gates at 6 and registration at 6:30 with race site laps at 8, then the full championship ladder: Micro 2 through Supermini, Women's 12+, 125 B/C, Schoolboy, College, 250 and 450 B/C, Open A Pro Sport, and Vet 25+ through 50+. Weekend fees: $30 gate per person ($15 Sunday only), $50 race entry per class ($60 pro), $30 practice, $20 pit vehicles, dry camping $25 a night, RV hookups $60. Check the track's social pages for updates. Championship points are awarded on a per-moto basis, with double points at both the Rafter S Shootout and the State Championship Final. Points earned in one region do not transfer to another, so riders must compete within their selected region to accumulate points toward the state title. Series rules: points are scored on a 25-point scale down to one point for 20th, awarded per moto at every round, with double points at the Shootout and the State Championship Final. Points do not transfer between the North, Central and South regions. The State Championship Final is open to everyone whether or not they raced a regional round, but riders who skip the regionals start the final on zero points. The season decides the official AMA Texas State Championship number one plate. Practice runs Saturday morning at the regular rounds. The Shootout and the Championship Final add a Friday practice session. Pit vehicles: four wheels only, 65 inches maximum width. No motorcycles, ATVs, mini-cycles or throttle e-bikes. Drivers must be 18 or older and hold a valid licence. $20 per vehicle, 13 MPH limit, use permitted 7 AM to 10:30 PM with lights after dusk, and all passengers seated. Reckless use can mean confiscation, rider disqualification or ejection. Official class split: the series runs the format as posted on the state flier, and the Saturday and Sunday cards are different. Saturday runs Micro 1 and Micro 50cc Open, the 65cc 7-11 Open and Beginner classes, 85cc 10-14 Open, 85cc 9-13 Beginner (small wheel only), Girls 11-16 with Supermini allowed, 122cc+ Beginner and Vet Womens 25+. Everything else runs Sunday, from Micro 2, Micro 3 and Micro E through the 65s, 85s, Mini Sr and Supermini, Womens 12+, 125cc B/C, Schoolboy 1 and 2, College 18-24, the 250 and 450 B and C classes, Open A Pro Sport, and Vet 25+ through Vet 50+. Check which day your class runs before you plan the weekend. Irondog takes its own race registration through Trackside at secure.tracksideprereg.com/irondog, and if you need an AMA event membership the track has a promoter link on irondogmx.com so you can sort it before you arrive rather than at the desk. There is a retail shop on site for race day, carrying VP fuel, oils and lubes, goggles, gloves, tear offs, spark plugs, oil and air filters, tubes, chains and sprockets, plus a bike wash. 2026 AMA RULE, CHEST AND BACK PROTECTION. This is an AMA-sanctioned race, and from January 1 2026 chest and back protection is mandatory for competitors. It can go under or over the jersey, but it has to cover the sternum, the anterior ribs, the posterior ribs and the spine from T1 to T12. Riders without proper protection are NOT permitted on track, so check your gear before you travel.
