Profile

What riders find at Jackpine Gypsies.

The Jackpine Gypsies Motorcycle Club sits in Sturgis, South Dakota, at the edge of the Black Hills, and it comes with as much history as any riding spot in the country. The club was established in 1936 by Clarence Pappy Hoel, and in 1938 it organized the first Black Hills Motor Classic, the event that grew into the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. In other words, this is the birthplace of Sturgis, and the club has been running races on the same grounds ever since. The facility at 1216 Short Track Road is more than a single track. There is a motocross track, a short track, and a hill climb area, all on the property, which is a rare spread of disciplines for one club. Racing is AMA-sanctioned and tied into AMA District 30 in South Dakota, and the 2026 Gypsie Moto Series runs from a spring District 30 championship weekend in April through a South Dakota State Championship round in early August, with Loretta Lynn area qualifying in the mix. For riders across western South Dakota, eastern Wyoming, and the Black Hills region, the Jackpine Gypsies offer a chance to race on historic ground in one of the most scenic corners of the country. The season runs spring through summer, and event dates and prep move with the calendar, so confirm before you haul. See jackpinegypsies.com for the Gypsie Moto Series schedule and race details, or call (605) 347-6022, and note that minors need a notarized release to race. Racing on the same ground that launched the Sturgis Rally is a draw all its own.
