Profile

What riders find at Clay Peak Motorcycle Park.

Clay Peak Motorcycle Park, officially the Clay Peak Recreation Area, is a 200-acre public riding park on Highway 52 in Payette: BLM land managed by Payette County under a recreation lease, open year-round from dawn to dusk, and completely free to ride. The layout blends natural and built terrain. Roughly two miles of main motocross trails work the hills and ridges with man-made jumps, doubles, multiple tabletops, and challenging sweepers, launched off the famous 600-foot starting hill with its wicked S-turn on top. Around the main tracks, miles of desert side trails run from hard-packed loops to loose, deep sandy washes that will test anyone's throttle control. Come self-sufficient: this is a primitive day-use property. The big flat staging lot has spectator bleachers and little else, with no running water and no shade, so pack in all your own water, fuel, tools, and canopies, and pack everything out. Overnight camping is prohibited. The only paperwork is Idaho's OHV rule: every machine needs a current Idaho OHV registration sticker, and out-of-state riders must grab a temporary non-resident permit before unloading. Public freeriding runs daily, but Payette County occasionally closes the main layouts for regional races and hill climb series, so check the events calendar at claypeak.com before a long drive. For Treasure Valley riders in Payette, Fruitland, Ontario, and the Boise metro an hour southeast, Clay Peak is the region's free public gate and one of its only two-mile motocross laps.
