What riders find at Budds Creek Motocross Park.
Budds Creek Motocross Park in Mechanicsville, Maryland is one of the most iconic motocross venues in American motocross, the longtime AMA Pro Motocross National Championship venue for the mid-Atlantic, drawing 20,000-plus spectators every August for one of the most beloved rounds on the calendar. Located in St. Mary's County in southern Maryland along the Patuxent River corridor, Budds Creek has hosted AMA 125, 250, and 500 Nationals plus three World Championships across its decades of operation, making it one of the most decorated motocross venues on the East Coast.
The track is what makes Budds Creek special. Classic American natural-terrain motocross, with a perfect blend of rolling hills, real elevation changes, off-camber corners, and the deep, tacky Maryland topsoil that develops killer ruts the deeper into a moto you go. There is nothing manufactured about this track. Every section flows out of the natural land, exactly the way American motocross was meant to be ridden. The 1.5-mile layout uses the property's rolling Coastal Plain terrain rather than fighting it, and the resulting natural rhythms reward riders who can read terrain rather than just hit memorized lines.
Budds Creek is also the home track of the Mid-Atlantic Motocross Association and the AMA's preferred facility in District 7, meaning regional racing happens here nearly every weekend through the season. Outside the marquee Pro National in August, you will find amateur racing, district events, vintage races, and open practice, basically the full spectrum of American motocross on a single property. The amateur calendar is one of the deepest in the country, with Mid-Atlantic Motocross Association rounds, AMA District 7 racing, and visiting series filling weekends from spring through fall.
Extensive on-site camping, full concessions, real restrooms with showers, the Pro National infrastructure stays in place even on regular weekends, which makes Budds Creek one of the few amateur venues where a family can show up with an RV and find a real amenity setup rather than a gravel lot.
Located in southern Maryland approximately 90 minutes south of Washington DC and 90 minutes south of Baltimore, easy day-trip access from anywhere in the DC and Baltimore metros, plus reasonable drives from Northern Virginia, Delaware, and southeastern Pennsylvania. The Pro National weekend specifically is one of the great American motocross experiences. The Maryland summer humidity, the trees lining the back side of the track, the hill straight after the start gate, and the kind of crowd that has been coming back to Budds Creek for generations.
For anyone searching for motocross tracks in Maryland, MX tracks near Washington DC, or the mid-Atlantic AMA Pro Motocross venue, Budds Creek is the answer with the longest receipt. If you ride motocross anywhere in the mid-Atlantic, riding Budds Creek is a non-negotiable rite of passage. Bucket-list track, end of story.
