What to expect
Round 18 of the UpState Motocross and WNYMA series at Thornwood on Sunday, September 13, and the sixth and final round of the Summer Championship Series.
This one is a Summer Championship Series round. The series page now lists six of them and riders need to attend at least five to qualify for series awards. The printed 2026 schedule was drawn up before Silver Springs withdrew, so it still shows seven rounds and bills them as double points races.
Sign-ups are Saturday 6 to 7:30 PM and Sunday 7 to 9 AM. The riders meeting is at 8:30 AM, mandatory, with practice straight after and racing following that.
Thornwood runs 1.1 miles of mostly sandy loam with built-up berm and bowl corners, a whoops section, a split section and what the track claims is the only under-over tunnel jump in the state, off a 36 rider gate.
Saturday open practice runs 10 AM to 3 PM at $30 per rider. Big bikes and quads go 10 AM to 1 PM, then 50cc, 65cc, 85cc, 100cc and mini quads take 1 PM to 3 PM. Saturday practice is open to everyone, no membership or day pass needed.
Gates open Friday 5 PM to 10 PM, Saturday 8 AM to 10 PM and Sunday from 7 AM. Race sign-ups run Saturday 6 to 7:30 PM and Sunday 7 to 9 AM. The riders meeting is at 8:30 AM and every rider has to be there, with practice immediately after.
Admission is $15 per person for the whole weekend, free for non-racing kids 10 and under. A 2026 UpState Motocross / WNYMA membership is $30, or $20 for each extra family member under 18, and day passes are $10. If you are racing three or more rounds the membership is the cheaper route and skips the paperwork queue.
Campers are welcome from Friday 5 PM through Sunday night. Sign in at the gate and get your wristbands. There is a food truck or concessions on race weekends.
Bring cash. Thornwood is cash only because there is no internet at the pavilion. The nearest ATMs are in town at the Circle K and Bucks Restaurant.
No AMA card is required. All current district cards are accepted, but you must have your 2026 card with you or buy a day pass at sign-up. Sign-up is at the track, there is no online pre-entry.
