What riders find
Hemond's MX in Minot is the largest motocross facility in Maine. Six hundred and sixty acres. That number does not mean much until you see it. Most regional motocross properties run 40 to 100 acres. A few of the destination amateur facilities push 200. Hemond's runs three times that, and the scale lets the property do things smaller venues cannot.
The property has two full motocross tracks, not one. They are named Hilltop MX and Sawmill MX, and the names give away the terrain. Hilltop uses the rolling Maine grade. Sawmill runs through a different section of the property and rides differently enough that a family visiting for the weekend can ride two genuinely separate tracks without changing facilities. Then there is a third track, a kids loop, sized for 50cc and 65cc riders. That is the rare arrangement where a household with three different riders at three different skill levels can practice at the same time, on three different tracks, on the same property.
Twelve miles of off-road trails wrap the moto facility. The trail network is the other half of the property's identity, and it makes Hemond's one of the few places in the Northeast where you can ride a motocross track in the morning and switch to legal trail riding in the afternoon. Public-land trail riding has been disappearing across New England for decades, and the private trail systems that survive are getting more popular every year because of it.
The operating schedule reflects the scale. Daily 8am to 7pm hours, Wednesday afternoon practice 3pm to 7pm, select weekend sessions with 24-hour advance reservations. The reservation requirement is the giveaway that the maintenance staff is actually prepping tracks between sessions, not running the property like an open lot.
Hot showers in the restroom block, concessions on race days. The amenity setup is built for families staying through full weekends, not just rider-functional minimums. Hemond's also runs instructional programs, private lessons, and full track rentals for groups. The rental option in particular is useful for camps and training groups that want dedicated time without the public traffic.
The location is central Maine. About an hour south of Bangor, two hours north of Portland on I-95. Boston is three and a half hours south. The catchment is most of Maine, southern New Hampshire, parts of Quebec, and the occasional weekend trip from greater Boston for a major event. (207) 346-6200 for the current calendar and reservations.
