What to expect
The Moto Academy brings a training class to South Fork MX in Disputanta on Saturday, November 14, with Coach Mitchell instructing. He has been very well received, with plenty of riders now asking for him by name.
The day runs a full curriculum: 9:30 AM arrival, riders meeting at 10, a practice moto at 10:20, moto theory and Q&A at 11, a standing drill at 11:30, corner and braking drills at noon, the one-hand drill at 1 PM, jumps at 2, and a debrief at 3:30, with another practice moto at 4 at the track's discretion. Free ride time closes out the day, and the track stays fully prepped and watered throughout.
Large bikes only: riders must be 14 or older on a full-size machine with a 21-inch front wheel and an 18 or 19-inch rear.
The standard ticket is $399 and includes two spectator tickets for parents, siblings or a spouse. Classes with Coach Mitchell are capped at 30 riders, and riders are grouped by skill level, with an extra coach brought in if the cap is reached.
There is no age limit, but younger riders need to be able to ride the track unassisted, pick their own bike up and start it themselves. Bring your own bike, helmet, goggles, boots and protective gear, plus food and water.
If the weather turns, The Moto Academy offers a make-up date, or a class credit or full refund, and they email 48 hours before class. Cancelling more than 60 days out is a full refund; inside 60 days it is store credit that does not expire.
