What to expect
Walnut Tree MX in Bakersville hosts its first ever race, the 1st Annual Pit National, and it is pit bikes only (the owner notes this may change). The weekend opens Friday, July 31 with practice from 2 to 7 PM at $30 a rider, with limited dry camping available (no hookups, tight space for big campers; all bikes shut down at 8 PM and quiet time is 10 PM). Race day Saturday, August 1 runs gates at 7 AM, sign-ups at 8:30, practice at 10, and racing to follow. Admission is $30 for the full Friday through Saturday weekend or $20 for Saturday only, with kids 5 and under free. The Pro class is $40 with 100% payback to the winner; all other classes are $30 plus $20 for each additional class. Find the entrance off NC-226: turn into the church parking lot and enter the gate at the Walnut Tree MX banner. No riding up and down the gravel road and no spinning up the grass. All ages welcome, come for a good time and lots of laughs.
